The Bennington Centre Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Vermont. In 1762, the first burial in what was expected to become the cemetery took place, when the widow Bridget Harwood died while working in the fields. On August 20, 1766, the town’s proprietors voted to officially establish the land for the cemetery. Over the years, the cemetery became the final resting place for five Vermont governors; American, British and Hessian/Brunswicker Revolutionary War soldiers; the poet Robert Frost; and many other notables.

Since 1907 the cemetery has been operated by the Bennington Centre Cemetery Association.

The Bennington Centre Cemetery is a non-denominational, non-profit cemetery located in Old Bennington, Vermont.
